Competition Report

Since our last report we have had 2 events, Broadford sprints on 25th August and our local Motorkhana on 8th September.

Craig Ballinger represented us at Broadford and was the only MG present at the AROCA event (Alfa Romeo Owners) which was mostly Alfas, Fiats and Mazdas. Craig did a 5 second personal best time.

Our Motorkhana was well attended by 13 entrants and a couple of extra come and try participants. It was great to see some youth competing including Xavier Hill and Ebony (Grandson and grand-daughter of Stuart Boreham), Adam Sharp (Grandson of Ross Hutton), Lauren Simons and Mathew Barker (Daughter and partner of Barry Simons and Harry Sherman (Grandson of Doug Sherman).

Thomas Deahl was also competing well in the 1100 and I believe I saw another Sherman driving around the grounds.

Craig Ballinger continued his good driving, particularly on the first pattern Noughts and Crosses which was a Midget benefit being so tight. Many B's had trouble negotiating the tight course including myself. Some had trouble getting the pattern right and we had several WD's. The second pattern on the top area was Plumb Crazy which also caught out several competitors. Funniest thing I saw for the day was Ross Hutton after getting a WD determined to get it right a second time so had the map on the console and spent most of the run looking down and nearly hit several flags due to not looking ahead. Just when he was confident he missed the last flag. Bugger. Thomas Deahl was giving dad Graham plenty of stick both verbally and on course. Graham thought he'd beaten Thomas on his third try of one pattern, but the Competition director didn't include the third run in the results. Mathew Barker driving his MX5 for the first time improved with every run and ended up a close second overall to Craig. Lauren Simons was driving very tidily and getting faster with every run. Xavier Hill also improved every run by lots and despite having trouble seeing over the dash did very well. Adam Sharp did very well. Richard Oakleigh helped out providing his car for Harry Sherman to compete with the club car not able to run waiting for a suspension upgrade. Richard also ran fast finishing equal third with Graham Deahl who was driving son Thomas's 1100.

Events coming up are the Bryant Park Hillclimb at Moe in late September and Calder Park Sprint coming up in October. Our next Motorkhana is on 10th November.
